The Killers new single “Runaways”

Kata Brandon Flowers vokalis The Killers ''I had a good feeling about it," dia sedikit beri gambaran tentang “Runaways” single baru dari "Battle Born" album baru mereka yang akan rilis 18 September nanti lewat Island Records, dan ternyata dengan cepat sejak 10 Juli kemarin lagu ini menembus chart-chart radio.

"The Killers have been gone for a little bit, so we all collectively decided that this song had that very powerful ability to open the record," kata Island Def Jam Music Group president/COO Steve Bartels. "[We wanted] to say to the world, with excitement and some fanfare, that they were coming with a new album. Deciding on a single, we felt this song best captured that."

Sejak ditayangkan secara serentak pada tanggal 10 Juli di Kevin & Bean's KROQ Los Angeles morning show dan Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 program, juga di-present dalam versi video lyrics di The Killers' website, lagu ini langsung melompat  ke No. 22 pada chart Billboard's Rock Songs chart dan No. 17 di Alternative chart, disamping itu video lyric-nya berhasil mengaet lebih dari 1.2 juta viewer.

Bartels juga bilang "Runaways" hanya langkah awal dalam promo "Battle Born". Menjelang album yang digarap dalam satu tahun dengan lima produser berbeda ini dirilis, The Killers akan bikin versi Warren Fu-directed video untuk "Runaways" 26 Juli nanti di Vevo and MTV sekalian perform di "Late Show With David Letterman".

Single ini "definitely has a couple of 'brothers' on the record," kata Flowers. "It's a great starting point, but there are more styles as well . . . We've never hid our influences, and we've always been loud and proud. This album is going down a few different roads, and you really get a taste of what we like as a band and what we think our strengths are."
